“Israel: ontological bubbles as a tool of controlled chaos”

Expert discussion

The “Dor Moria” Association, the “Turei Zaav” Association, and the “Samuil Shvartsbard” Foundation invite you to a round table discussion “Israel: ontological bubbles as a tool of controlled chaos” as part of the “Haifa Format” project.

Since the inception of the Haifa Format project in 2017, we knew that the radicalization of the political agenda and the dehumanization of political opponents are technologies that we would not want to see in Israel.

Unfortunately, our suspicions have been confirmed, and in Israel in 2024 we observe a state of conflict within Israeli society, driven by multiple socio-political divides, signs of radicalization, and the dehumanization of political opponents.

Date: April 18, 2024, Time: 15:30 – 19:00

Address: Israel Council Complex Yaffe, 80 Rokach Boulevard, Tel Aviv

We want our country to both preserve and develop, but without destructive crises and managed chaos. Any changes spark disputes among representatives of various social groups. These disputes can be constructive, but they can also destroy Israeli society, dismantle Israel.

Thanks to our sociological research conducted in 2023-2024, we have gathered enough sociological data to study the narratives dividing Israeli society. This situation is well explained, in our view, by the concept of the ontological bubble. Ontological bubbles are closed worldviews formed within social groups. They arise from peculiarities of human thinking, such as the tendency to simplify complex reality into simple oppositions like “us vs. them,” “good vs. evil.” Social crisis, information overload, value vacuum, and social networks contribute to this.

Our organizations: the “Dor Moria” Association, the “Turei Zaav” Association and the “Samuil Shvartsbard” Foundation have decided to join forces and launch an all-Israeli movement “Derech Eretz.” This movement aims to preserve the state and strengthen it against external and internal threats by uniting Israelis in their confrontation with “ontological bubbles.”

Discussion topics

  1. Sociological justification of the concept of the “Ontological Bubble”;
  2. How ontological bubbles are formed and how they act as a tool;
  3. “Derech Eretz” – the philosophical-spiritual aspect in the confrontation with ontological bubbles.
